• Knowing Self – The Brahma

Yajanvalkya, an ancient Vedic sage, was very popular for his philosophy and spiritual knowledge. He used to live through alms given (old Hindu practice for Brahmins) and rewards obtained in Vedic discussions. His wife Maitreyi was also a wise and spiritual lady respected everywhere.

One day after winning a debate on Vedic science , arranged in the court of King Janak of Mithila, which took ugly turn when lost Brahmin committed suicide due to guilty, Yajanvalkya came home lost in deep thoughts.

Deeply saddened by that incident, during dinner time, Yajanvalkya told her wives (2 wives) about his decision to renounce this world. He asks both his wives to share whatever he possessed ,to which other wife agrees after consolation , but Maitreyi refused as she knew material things don’t provide eternal joy. She asks her husband, what is the use of these things for me without you ? What joy I can get from them ? Why it is hard to leave your beloved ones behind in search of Self ? Please guide me with your spiritual knowledge, Share your ultimate knowledge with me to clear my doubts.

That famous conversation between Yajanvalkya and Maitreyi appears in many Hindu religious text like Brihadaranyaka Upanishad.

    Translation :-

He said – husband is not loved because he is husband, he is loved for the sake of self. Wife is not loved because she is wife, she is loved for the sake of self. Sons are not dear since they are sons, they are dears for the sake of self. Money is not desired as it is money, it is desired for the sake of self. Brahmin is not loved since he is Brahmin, he is loved for the sake of self. Kshatriya is not loved since he is Kshatriya, he is loved for the sake of Self. World is not lovely since it’s world, it’s lovely for the sake of self. Gods are not loved since they are Gods, they are loved for the sake of self. People are loved not because they are people, they are loved for the sake of self. All are not loved because of them, they are loved for the sake of self. Self should be seen, listen, reflected and meditated my dear Maitreyi , All is known through seeing, listening and meditating the self.

    Translation :-

Brahma leaves him who seeks Brahma somewhere else, Kshhatriya leaves him who seeks Kshhatriya somewhere else, World abandons him who seeks world somewhere else, Gods leave him who seeks gods somewhere else, People leave him who seeks people somewhere else, everyone leave him who seeks everyone somewhere else. This is Brahma, This is Kshhatriya, This is world, This is god, This is people, This Soul is everything.

In short, everything is inside us. We just need to find out our real self. Any person is loved not because he is lovely it’s only because his company, dialogues and deeds give comfort to our soul. Thus what matters is Self only, who is the reflection of Supreme, just like moon shines in the reflection of Sun.

    Know yourself

  • Pikes Peak – A Trip To Heaven

These days temperature is too high in India , you can actually make tea by infusing leaves with water and putting for a while on rooftop 😛 . Sweating and bathing are actually interchangeable nowadays.

Last week many states broke records, few reporting even 50 degree (122 F). Temperature here in Mathura (My hometown) is oscillating between 40-50 degrees. Mind is thus trying to get respite from this heat through some good “cold” memories.

Yesterday I was busy reading book titled “Not Guilty” on Kindle app, story based on Colorado, USA. Let me tell you, Colorado is one of my favorite place, solitude and beauty of which provides joy to my soul. I have been there two times in last two years. While reading the book, I got lost in the beauty of Colorado along with book’s character.

Last year we (Me and Harmit) went to Colorado in April month and stayed in Colorado Springs. Weather was kind of hot that time. We planned to visit Pikes Peak – highest summit of southern front range of Rocky Mountains, which was very near from our stay.

Pond on the way to Peak

We drove through Pikes peak highway – 19 miles drive with elevation of 14,115 feet. This drive was one of the steepest among all our previous trips and full of breathtaking views. Temperature completely flipped as we progressed thus requiring hats, gloves and jackets. Luckily we had all such stuff with us (Learning from past – South Dakota trip). It was fun to wear winter clothes and notice skaters enjoying over the scattered ice everywhere in surroundings.

    Beautiful scenery of Pikes Peak

Once we reached at the shuttle point (huge area with parking space) from where you have to on-board shuttle service. We waited for our turn (frequency is slow due to steep road) close to 25 mins and then reached at the top after listening about the area from lady driver. There used to be a railway service as well to reach here (currently under renovation) which must have been a good experience too.

    Top view of the shuttles

    Railway Track at the top

They have Visitor center at the top with small restaurant serving freshly prepared doughnuts, potato chips, coffee and other items which was icing on the cake in that cold weather. Once you are at the top, you will be mesmerized by the look. You can see the long range of mountains along with clouds just over your head. Just by thinking about that place gives me goosebumps. I am desperate to go there again.

    Pikes Peak Souvenir

    Breath-taking

See the video of surrounding below :-

    View at the Top

Once you come back to parking spot through shuttle, you will be advised to drive in lower gears (manual mode) so as not to damage your vehicle. It was a memorable day still fresh in my memory.

    Returning through Shuttle

Do you also have any such memory ? Which place is your favorite where you can go N number of times ? Leave your comments below.

    PEACE …

  • Where do you search me ?

    Where do you search me?

    I am with you

Not in pilgrimage, not in idols

    Neither in solitary living

Not in temples, nor in mosques

Neither in Kaba nor in Kailasa

    Not in prayers,nor in meditation

Neither in fasting nor in prohibition

    Not in vedic procedure

    Nor in yogic postures

Not even in sky or universe

    Neither in womb of nature

Not in the breath of the breaths

If you are a true seeker

In a moment than you discover

    Says Kabir, listen with care

Where your faith is, I am there.

I still remember this beautiful poem by Saint Kabir, we learned in childhood (In Hindi coursework). That time our teacher taught the in-depth meaning of the poem, even though beautifully explained, we couldn’t get the real intent of it.

Today while I have all the time in world to think and retrospect, I recited it and couldn’t resist to share this masterpiece with you. Such artworks are like nectar of spirituality which everyone should taste. Those who are eager to visit Temples, Churches, Mosques and Gurudwaras, can feel the presence of Supreme Lord within themselves. Just need to search him 🙂

    2. Headspace – We all know the importance of Meditation in today’s world. It should be part of our daily routine, as it gives relief to always busy mind, eases thoughts and provides a feel-good experience to the body. But many of us either don’t know how to do it or find it boring (or simply don’t have enough time). Lack of time should not be an excuse (especially in this time), so question arises- How should and from where to start ? Headspace can provide answer to this. Lessons are designed beautifully with pre-recorded voice guiding you with the process. Timing of session can be chosen (min. 3 minutes). First 10 sessions are free and thereafter it’s a free trial of 7 days for further sessions. But one can continue to practice the free sessions till need of further progress.

  • Today’s Photography

It is common to see wandering animals in the streets nowadays. Few come to witness the emptiness and others in search of food.

It’s not like sightings of monkeys are uncommon in India but they are coming in my neighbourhood almost daily in search of food or rest.

Today we noticed a family of monkeys with at least 2 males, 1 female and 2 babies out of which 1 baby seems to be very young. Our neighbour and my dad threw some food for them and monkeys started the feast. So I got the chance to take some shots from my house window.

    Mother’s Love
    Eating Couple
    Let’s find out
    Let me try it
    What’s there father ?
    Embrace

One can easily feel the bonding between the family and especially love between mother and her baby. She is very protective of her baby just like us, when I opened the gate of my house with camera for better pictures, she ran away with baby considering it as a threat to infant. How lovely !

Hope you have liked the pictures. Leave your comment.

  • In May Month

During the scorching heat of May in India, it becomes so hard to go outside for work but it’s unavoidable. I still remember the goggle and large cloth wrapped around the faces when we used to go to school on our bicycles.

This May is different though, we are still inside our secure homes avoiding the contact of COVID-19. There were assumptions that virus’ effect will be less in such heated conditions but all those ideas seem to be untrue.

We are lucky to have air-condition rooms in our houses but there are many underprivileged who are managing somehow battling with poverty, unemployment and this weather. I wish this condition improves soon.

Even though we all are trying our best to be engaged by taking new hobbies, making videos, giving challenges and through so many other ways but still boredom and silence can be seen on the streets. Below are some shots I recently took which conveys the same feeling :-

    Thirsty Crow
    Water is Life
    Boredom
    Vegetable seller
    Nap time
    In Search of Food

I wish everything gets better , till that time we all have to be patient. Help others, give charity and provide food and water to animals and birds. This way we can make a difference.

    PEACE

  • Behind Bars !!!

As COVID-19 continues to spread across the world, still no remedy, we are forced to be inside our houses. Even though many of us are at loss due to this situation, it’s the only available solution right now.

I have been lucky enough to have two trips in Feb and March ( Miami & Maldives) before COVID-19 rose to its peak. Without gym, travel and office it’s dull but at least it’s good for Mother Nature who is recovering slowly.

Took some shots from my house (India)…

    Bull wandering on the streets
Baby Monkey looking for relief in hot summer
    Monkey eating the bread
    Indian Crow
Monkey family enjoying on tree branch

Now situation is totally reversed. Earlier we used to go to Zoos to see animals behind bars and now they are spectators and we are helpless inside our enclosures 😀

What an irony ! God has new ways to maintain balance.

    Be safe and patient

    Peace….

  • Things to do and avoid

Many of you might be missing my blogs, I am also unhappy for not being consistent enough. Actually I came to my home country (India) in March-start and got stuck here due to lock-down situation.

Even though having access to everything, I was taking well sought break and was avoiding any kind of Social presence. This lockdown is also a good way to focus, learn and meditate.

It’s been close to 1.5 months without any post and I am missing you all. Hope you all are well, healthy and safe inside your houses.

There is already too much about Corona everywhere so I won’t mention it much. We should be looking for the positivity. This period will end soon.

Keep yourself engaged in below activities while being at home :-

    1. Reading (Goodreads app for readers network )

    2. Maintaining Fitness through Workouts (Apps like Adidas training, Fitbit)

    3. Meditation (Apps like Headspace)

    4. Watching Television (Avoid all day news 😉 )

    5. Spending quality time with family (Games like Ludo or cards 🙂 )

    6. Learning new skills (Career/Personal)

    Special Mentions

    1. Avoid negative messages and rumors

    2. Check validity of news and messages before forwarding them

    3. Support your nation by donations if you can

    4. Stay inside and follow government’s guidelines

    5. Help the needy people

    Thanks for visiting ….

  • A Day At Omaha Zoo

Last weekend I went to zoo as I had zoo pass (from the library) and temperature was also good(+11 degree). Wanted to make this day memorable and I really love to be around animals (Don’t support captivity though).

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is famous for its structure and large number of species in it. It’s so big that , its quiet difficult to cover whole area in a day ,so generally you need to go twice or thrice to see it all. Since I have been there more than 4 times, it was easy to cover the whole in a day as I know which area is for what.

Zoo is divided into multiple sections, I have listed top 10 from the area :-

    1. Lied Jungle – It’s my favorite section of the zoo. Setup of this area is of a rain forest jungle with waterfall, lots of trees, ponds and exotic animals like squirrel monkey, bearded monkey, tapir, birds, bats , stingrays, alligator, snakes (Anaconda as well), tortoise, hippos and many more. As soon as you enter the area, you feel the humidity and hear the sound of rain. It’s a great simulation.

    2. Desert dome It’s the most visible area of the zoo, great architecture and huge (You will notice it from the highway) so that it can be seen from distance. As the name suggests, dome is full of dessert animals like Kangaroo, birds, bobcat, fox, meerkats, goats, insects (spiders, scorpions etc ) and desert plants. One will get the chance to understand life in deserts. Simply a great place.

    3. Kingdom of the night – At the exit of Desert dome, on the right side you will find this section. Reason I mentioned specifically the directions, I somehow missed this place every time (4 times) I been there. You might have already guessed, this portion is designed for our night loving animals. It’s build is very unique with low lights, wreckage setup and bridges to move from one end to another. There are alligators, caimans, fishes, turtles, bats, tarsiers and many more. You have to see very closely to the life there due to darkness.

    4. Butterfly and insect pavallian – This section is most beautiful among all, visitor gets chance to be in environment with lots of beautiful butterflies flying around. There are fruits kept for them, you can see them sitting on fruits and sometimes they sit on you, One has to be very cautious not to run over them. At the exit there is portion of different kind of insects like crickets, worms, centipedes, millipedes, spiders, roaches, bugs and many more. You will also see the butterfly cocoons under supervision of staff members.

    5. Asian Highlands – This is the new addition to the zoo, opened in 2019 for public. It is scattered in huge space with Asian animals like black bear, snow leopard, tiger, cranes, goats, red panda (cutest among all), rhino etc. They have setup this area beautifully with the aroma of Asian culture; old temple structures and yeti area (restaurant and great for selfies). Really a nice addition.

    6. African savanna – Now this one is the habitat of famous African animal kingdom. There are big enclosures for African Lions, Cheetahs, Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, Rhinos, Antelopes and Deer. Visitors will definitely loved this area due to all those big powerful animals. There is also a restaurant in the area which has bit flavors of Africa.

    7. Scott aquarium – This section is also very popular among tourists. Aquarium is big with all sea creatures that includes Dolphins, Whales, Sharks, Tortoises, all sizes of fishes, Sea horse, Jelly Fishes and such. Most beautiful place is the aquatic glass panel pathway with all sort of fishes and creatures moving in the surrounding, over your head. That’s the most amazing experience one can have. Make sure to visit this section while you are there.

    8. Wild kingdom – Just at the entrance is Wild Kingdom which is not that big, They have snakes, spiders, frogs, fishes, mice , some educational stuff and few skeletons. So basically this enclosure is small with tiny animal word.

    9. Gorilla valley – This is something every visitor must visit. I am sure everyone loves Gorillas, so here is the treat. This whole section is for Gorillas along with educational stuff that involves puzzles, questions and Skeletons of Gorillas. You will definitely love to see powerful creature and it’s close resemblance to us.

    10. Orangutans enclosure – Just in front of Gorilla Valley is this section which is home to many Orangutans. They are so cute and human like that you will simple adore them. Kids will also love the place.

That’s not all. Listed ones are the most important sections of the Zoo, Other than this there is Lemur island, Simmons aviary, Madagascar expedition, Sea Lion pavilion and various kids related activities plus sculptures for photos and selfies.

If you are visiting Omaha , this place should be top on your list.

Leave you comment which section is of interest of you.

    Peace …

  • Last couple of days have been very productive and special to me. Firstly I am visiting my country after an year (trip already started), secondly I completed my sketch(took 2-3 weeks) and lastly got nominated by MEERYABLE for this year’s Sunshine blogger award.

This Award is a way to encourage fellow bloggers for their contribution to the blogging world and putting something good on the table.

I really feel honored for this nomination and thank MEERYABLE for considering my blog. It’s really nice to get encouragement from the group. Checkout her blog for travel ideas and exploration of India.

Below are the rules in the nomination process :-

    1. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blogging sites.

    2. Answer the questions.

    3. Notify the nominees for their nomination through their blog or social media.

    4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award Logo.

    5. Ask questions to nominees.

Here are the answers to MEERYABLE‘s questions :

    1. What’s your favorite place you’ve visited?

Answer – I really love to be in nature, spirituality is at the maximum when I am surrounded by nature since it shows how little and insignificant we are in front of Mother Nature. My favorite place which I recently visited is Yellowstone national park, USA which is a nature’s gift to this world. I will soon write blogs on it.

    2. Who is your biggest inspiration?

Answer :- There is not one person from whom I am inspired. Actually there are multiple personalities from different fields who inspire me, to name few Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dwayne Johnson, Akshay Kumar, John Abrahim, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Franz Kafka and so on. But if I name a single personality to whom I look to ,for any problem is Lord Shiva.

    3. What does a typical day in your week look like?

Answer :- My days are quiet busy since I am in many things. My day starts with a cup of green tea and Men’s health magazine, after oats breakfast (same breakfast for years 🙂 ) most of my day gets consumed in 9 to 5 office shift (1 hour ping-pong play too). One hour at gym post office and then some brain exercises (Elevate and Lumosity apps) plus Spanish learning (Duolingo app). Before I go to my bed, I can do drawing/ blogging/YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG75Er7OSYv-BRzLs2Bl5cg) or photo processing & entry in competitions (GuruShots – photography app) depending on my mood. Once in bedroom, I usually watch any Netflix series for 30-45 mins and then end my day with book reading.

I am nominating below bloggers for the award :-

    Musings of a Book Savant

    fotosbykarin.blog

    Vova Zinger’s Photoblog

    Candia Comes Clean

    Wildonline.blog

    My questions –

    1. What inspires you to write ?

    2. which place you can visit any number of times without losing its charm ?

    3. What are the things which make a blog uninteresting to you ?
