Today is a widely celebrated and unique Hindu festival for siblings, which strengthens the bond between them. On this day, sisters tie a sacred thread called Rakhi on their brothers’ wrists. The boys give gifts or money to the sisters, along with a vow to protect them and stand by them whenever needed.
The festival is deeply rooted in our culture, and there are various stories about its origin. Now it’s more about celebrating the bond and love between siblings than about the protective commitment. Girls are strong and responsible enough to take care of themselves, and in many situations, they provide mental, physical, and intellectual support to their siblings better than boys do.
Aayansh, my boy, was very happy to celebrate with us, and three of his sworn sisters tied rakhis to him , while Harmit’s friend tied rakhis on behalf of my sisters.
Now I miss my sisters and need to plan something to meet up with them.
